Indianapolis, Indiana

Indianapolis has grown to be a rapidly internationalizing US city that hosts one of the largest Myanmar communities in the United States because of the large number of employment opportunities, affordable housing, and existing family ties in the region. Another resource that Indianapolis hosts is a large network of refugee resettlement agencies that assist in English teaching, citizenship applications, college preparedness, and employment opportunities. Indianapolis also has a large religious network, with involved community leaders. More than 16,000 Burmese call Indianapolis their home, with 86% of them being from the Chin ethnic group while the community is well represented from the major ethnic groups from Myanmar, including Burman, Kachin, Kayah (Karenni), Karen, Mon, Rakhaine and Shan.
